Winemaker Notes
For the 2024 vintage, the Maceration blend consists of 30% Ribolla Gialla, 30% Friulano, 23% Grüner Veltliner, 10% Chardonnay, and 7% Kerner. Each variety was 100% whole berry destemmed and fermented for approximately 1 month on skins, then pressed at dryness. The one exception to this was the Kerner, which was skin-fermented in our Novum amphora, and left to age on skins for nine months - the longest time we’ve ever left wine on skins in our cellar! This was a roller coaster, as tannin evolution and fruit expression changed drastically during the life of the wine on skins. We captured our favorite moment and pressed the kerner off its skins in late June just before putting the final blend together. This small but powerful punch was a wild and wonderful addition to this blend, bringing an intensely floral but also earthy base note to the blend. We also fermented our Musque clone of Chardonnay on skins for the first time, adding a tropical component to the blend. The final wine was blended and bottled in September 2025, unfined and unfiltered.
